Meeting #17 announcement: Who needs Botnets if you have Google? http://www.tlug.org.za/meeting-17-announcement-who-needs-botnets-if-you-have-google/ http://www.tlug.org.za/meeting-17-announcement-who-needs-botnets-if-you-have-google/#comments Tue, 26 Oct 2010 15:01:44 +0000 simeon http://www.tlug.org.za/?p=211 Topic: Who needs Botnets if you have Google?
Speaker: Ivan Burke
Date: 1 November 2010
Time: 18:30 for 19:00
Venue: University of Pretoria, lecture hall 4-3 in the IT building.

Please join us for the final TLUG meeting for 20101 this coming Monday, 1 November.

Ivan Burke will be giving a talk about his research into exploiting Google Gagets to do things you would normally need a botnet to pull off. Among other things, he will discuss proof of concept implementations of:

  • Google gadget as anonymous web browsing tool. (Use Google to browse on your behalf. Bypass corporate firewalls and hide IP while browsing.)
  • Google gadget as man in the middle attack
  • Google gadget as DDoS (using Google’s servers)

PLEASE NOTE THE VENUE: Monday’s talk will be in lecture hall 4-3, not 2-24.

For directions (including an aerial photograph) please see the meetings page.

  1. Experience from 2009 was that everyone is away in December, so we’re quitting while we’re ahead this year
