Hi it has been a while since I did anything on this forum (used to have different user name can't remember what it was) or at UP. But I am back and was randomly requested to help out with an issue some club was having with hosting their forum on the UP intranet.
How can I host a forum that is accessible inside and outside of the university?
Well seeing as this is such a forum someone should hopefully be able to help me. They are a registered club and UP seems fine with the existence of such a site their IT department was just of no help when I asked them how to do it. If you could just please point me in the right direction |

Unless you have the appropriate "contacts" it's going to be insanely hard. Essentially it boils down to finding someone with a server in the DMZ willing to host your forum, or getting your own server into the DMZ - both of which is damn near impossible without the required contacts.
This site was originally hosted on the CS servers as tlug.up.ac.za when Simeon/Andrew/Edwin was still working there, I kept it there until we moved it off to a dedicated server sitting in the BIO-INF DC. We later registered tlug.org.za and is now using that as our primary name. As far as I know we still have some friends at IT who excluded *.tlug.org.za for us from consuming cap for folks since it it hosted on-campus. _________________ There are only 10 kinds of people in this world:

| Thanks. I shall see whether my contacts are connected enough to get this done. I have lots of friends and low places. Will try finding other means of achieving their goal or a willing host. Thanks |
