Hi it has been a while since I did anything on this forum (used to have different user name can't remember what it was) or at UP. But I am back and was randomly requested to help out with an issue some club was having with hosting their forum on the UP intranet.

How can I host a forum that is accessible inside and outside of the university?

Well seeing as this is such a forum someone should hopefully be able to help me. They are a registered club and UP seems fine with the existence of such a site their IT department was just of no help when I asked them how to do it. If you could just please point me in the right direction

Unless you have the appropriate "contacts" it's going to be insanely hard. Essentially it boils down to finding someone with a server in the DMZ willing to host your forum, or getting your own server into the DMZ - both of which is damn near impossible without the required contacts.

This site was originally hosted on the CS servers as tlug.up.ac.za when Simeon/Andrew/Edwin was still working there, I kept it there until we moved it off to a dedicated server sitting in the BIO-INF DC. We later registered tlug.org.za and is now using that as our primary name. As far as I know we still have some friends at IT who excluded *.tlug.org.za for us from consuming cap for folks since it it hosted on-campus.

Thanks. I shall see whether my contacts are connected enough to get this done. I have lots of friends and low places. Will try finding other means of achieving their goal or a willing host. Thanks
